6th Annual Blue Mountains Winter Gasshuku, 2011

The Blue Mountains Winter Camp is now in its sixth year and offers participants the unique and rewarding opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese-style live-in gasshuku. Intensive Aikido training is complemented with workshops in Shiatsu massage and Oki-do Yoga, all in the beautiful bushland setting of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

Students from all over Australia gathered in the new Sydney City Dojo to share in an inspiring weekend with Daiyu Sensei. He left an indelible mark on us all with his relaxed and open Aikido, and the absolute joy he brings to his practise.

Takeda Daiyu Sensei to visit Sydney, 14-15th October

This October, AKI Bondi Beach Dojo will proudly host a visit by Takeda Daiyu Sensei, one of AKI's most gifted and inspiring young teachers! This is Daiyu Sensei's first visit to Australia in 7 years, during which he'll be leading a 2-day gasshuku.

Bondi Beach Dojo Winter Gasshuku, Blue Mountains

Seventeen Aikidoka returned to the Blue Mountains for two very full days of keiko, laughter, play, communal meals, sunshine, bushwalks, crackling log fires, sushi, sake and not a whole lot of sleep!

Takeda Shihan awarded Aikido 8th dan by Doshu

In January 2006, Takeda Shihan was promoted to 8th dan by Ueshiba Doshu in recognition in recognition of his life-long efforts towards developing and spreading the art of Aikido. An international celebration held in Kamakura was attended by Aikidoka from all over the world.

Hair on fire as maples begin to blaze: Autumn in Japan

After stumbling across an amazing photo of Takeda Shihan, I booked a ticket on the spur of the moment and spent 2 incredible weeks in Japan climbing mountains, having adventures and training like a maniac with hair on fire!

Inaugural Bondi Beach Dojo Gasshuku

The first-ever AKI Bondi Beach Dojo gasshuku was held over two days in an idyllic bushland setting in the Blue Mountains. As well as plenty of training, participants enjoyed bushwalks, log fires and a surprise bithday party at 5am!

Anniversary Celebrations
in Japan


Thirty Australian Aikidoka travelled to Japan to celebrate with Takeda Shihan the 25th anniversary of his first visit to Australia. Special events included an enbukai with Aikido Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru, a visit to the Aiki Shrine and a gasshuku in Kamakura city.
