Aikido Sydney City - Berin Mackenzie, irimi nage, Aikido Seminar in Chile 2010 (uke Coto Aldunate) Berin Mackenzie (4th dan) was born in Sydney in 1975 and grew up in the Blue Mountains. He began his study of Aikido at the age of 15 with Nev Sagiba of Blue Mountains Aikido before joining AKI with Julie Manley and Chicko Xerri in 1994, and meeting Takeda Shihan in 1995. He made his first visit to Japan in 1998, during which he was invited to return and study at the Shonan Aikido Renmei Honbu Dojo. Berin moved to Japan in 2000 and was privileged to spend three years of intensive study with Takeda Shihan and his senior students. With the encouragement of his teacher, he returned to Sydney in 2003 and began sharing his unique Aikido experience. He maintains a close connection with Takeda Shihan and returns to Japan several times each year to further his study. Berin is known for his joyful, dynamic and creative approach to his practice, emphasising softness, sensitivity, connection with his partners and freedom in movement. His passion for Aikido has taken him all over world including Canada, the USA, Indonesia, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. He is chief instructor of both the adults' and children's Aikido programs at AKI Sydney City, and is fully-insured and accredited through the Martial Arts Industry Association (MAIA), the peak industry body for martial arts in Australia. Berin is also author of the AKI Japanese Aikido Glossary.
